summary:
Simon
Elliott won the toss and elected to bat. They made 74, Ivan Stocklinger got 15
runs and Scott Herring made 12. The best bowlers were Richard Hickling with 2/2
and Jason Ramsay’s 2/14. David Hislop took a magnificent catch, at mid-on, to
dismiss Ashleigh Povey for 4, off Jason Ramsay.
We replied with 69.
Philip Holman scored a magnificent 43. Only 8 more runs were scored by other batsmen,
of which Paul Barry’s 4 was the highest other score. The best bowlers were
Peter Jennings, with 2/12, and Scott Herring, who finished with 2/16.
Their next innings
wielded a magnificent 7 declared for 161, highlighted by Peter Jennings’ superb
score of 74 not out. Geoff Trevenan accomplished an incredible feat by hitting
30 runs, three sixes and three fours, off Michael Eddington’s last over. They
scored at a tremendous run-rate of 8.05.
We needed an impossible
167 runs to win. We decided to play for the draw. Jason Ramsay, Philip Holman,
and Richard Peace all batted well, making 15, 12 and 17 respectively. Then came
a middle-order collapse. David Hislop fell for one, Richard Hickling for
nought, and Michael Eddington’s 15 saved James’s team, from an even worse
predicament. James’s team however were all out for 71, with only two balls to
spare. Scott Herring took 3/11 and Peter Jennings took 1/42.
